Unique Antique Wooden Fishing Lure Sculptures

How it's Done

I use Douglas fir or redwood, depending on 'the outcome I'm looking for. As I cut the basic lure shape with my bandsaw, or turn the lure on my lathe,  the natural wood grains are exposed...this is when each lure begins to take on its own distinct personality.

After many hours of shaping and sanding the lure is ready for its "skin'!. I apply 12 to 15 layers of paint, creating each.lure's unique design.

More rubbing and sanding is required between each layer until the finish coat is achieved, ready for the final covering of varnish.

I highlight and shadow certain areas, but allow the natural wood grain to interact and play with the colors.

Every part of each lure is meticulously hand-crafted... and each lure is unique and named according to its "personality".
